Who can use it
Coverdell accounts hold family savings for a named beneficiary. Qualified K–12 expenses can receive tax-free distributions. Opening and contributing to an account have age and income rules; this is not a government scholarship.
How to use this route
Confirm the beneficiary, expense and distribution rules with your account custodian before using savings.
- Ask your custodian or tax adviser whether the beneficiary’s school arrangement and the proposed AMP license qualify. Homeschool status depends on applicable state law.
- Check the current product description, price and access dates before paying. Ask Corpora support for any missing purchase documentation.
- Retain the paid itemized receipt, learner details, distribution record and Form 1099-Q. Match expenses and distributions for the tax year.
Documents to keep
- Seller, product, purchase date, amount paid and license dates.
- Beneficiary name and payment evidence; keep enrollment and account records separately.
- Refund or adjustment records showing the amount you ultimately paid.
Use the program’s secure submission process for personal documents. Do not send account credentials or full payment details to Corpora.
Limits to check
- The $2,000 annual contribution cap is not a purchase or withdrawal limit.
- Do not use the same expense twice for Coverdell, 529 or other tax-free assistance.
- After a refund, ask the custodian or tax adviser how to reconcile the distribution. Coverdell and 529 rules differ.
Questions from families
Is a Coverdell account the same as a state ESA scholarship?
No. Coverdell uses savings held for the beneficiary. State ESA scholarships have their own awards, vendors and purchasing rules.
